I, myself have one of these Phenom II 965BE running at 3.8GHz rock sold on an old Asrock Alivedual-esata2 with HD5850 and 16GB of dirt cheap generic DDR2-800 memory. All Phenom II CPU's Support The AMD-V and AMD64 instruction sets. But anyway, There is a few errors on this page that needs to be corrected as well as all the pages on Phenom II CPU's. If you run Windows 2000 up to Windows 7, stay away from the FX chips because they are not compatible with older Operating Systems. The may look good on paper but in reality they are garbage. My experience with FX chips is very disappointing. When it comes time to buy a new system, I'm getting an Intel because I am done with AMD if they are going to keep making garbage FX chips. I sent this chip back to AMD believing that it was defective and I received a new chip that did the same thing on 3 different AM3+ motherboards.

I found this out the hard way after spending $224 on a boxed FX 8370e.

As for the Older Operating system, the OS will run kind of OK but a lot of the third party software won't work, like Comodo Internet Security, Firefox, Skyrim, VirtuaGirl HD, Google Chrome, Nero Burning ROM 9, Blackberry Link etc, etc. By-the-way Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 run on the same kernel and engine as Windows Vista, The only difference is the GUI ( Graphical User Interface) and them having microcode fixes for newer CPU's.
Amd k10 x4 64 Bit#
I have 64 bit Vista Enterprise, Windows XP PRO and 64 bit Fedora Core 14 Linux. I don't have Windows 7 nor any newer version of Windows. Windows 7 with Service Pack 2 will support the FX chip correctly. Therefore, we recommend the infinitely powerful AMD FX 6300įX chips are not compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows VISTA and Windows 7 Service Pack 1. The newer FX series provides substantial gains, and is In conclusion, these results show that it's unwise to Need to buy a discrete graphics card in order to see anything on your monitor Mind, however, that these processors don’t have integrated graphics, so you Indeed, the benchmarks reveal a complete domination by the FXĦ300: more than 45% better in the 3DMark11 score, more than 15% better in the Cinebenchģ2-bit score, and more than 20% better in the 64-bit Geekbench score. Considering it hasīetter specs, it still manages to draw less power at 95W TDP less than 47% Likewise, it can overclockīut can reach even greater speeds, maxing out at 4.79 GHz.

Much higher specs: 3.5 GHz, 8MB cache and 6 threads. Motherboards based on the 32nm Piledriver architecture. In contrast is the FX 6300, which uses the much newer AM3+ However, this comes at theĬost of high power consumption: at 140W TDP, make sure that you have at least a Multiplier, which can overclock at up to 4.1 GHz. It’s a boon for tweakers because it has an unlocked This Phenom packs a Quad Core which clocks in at 3.4 GHz with 6MBĬache and 4 threads. The X4 965 is older than the FX 6300 by almost 3 years! It’sīased on the previous 45nm Bulldozer architecture, which uses Socket AM3

Here’s a comparison that will put that question to the test: we’re going toĬompare the AMD Phenom II X4 965 versus the AMD FX 6300.

When upgrading desktop CPUs, is it wiser to buy a faster CPUįor your aging motherboard, or to just upgrade the entire system altogether?
